Party Favorite: It’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, perfect for game days, potlucks, and any social gathering.

Easy Preparation: This dip can be whipped up in minutes. It’s ideal for last-minute entertaining or when you’re short on time.

Full of Flavor: The tangy ranch, smoky bacon, sharp cheddar, and fresh green onions create an addictive flavor profile.

Mixture of sour cream and ranch dressing with crumbled crispy bacon bits, shredded cheddar cheese, sliced green onions on a glass bowl.

Ingredients

  • Sour Cream: The cool, creamy, tangy base that brings it all together. Full-fat is a must for the richest flavor and texture.
  • Ranch Dressing Mix: The secret seasoning blend adds that signature zesty ranch flavor we crave.
  • Cooked and Crumbled Bacon: Salty, smoky, crispy bits of bacon take this dip over the top. Don’t skimp on the bacon!
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese: It brings a bold cheesy flavor and irresistible stretchy texture. The more cheese, the better.
  • Sliced Green Onions: Bright, fresh green onions add the perfect pop of color. Save some for garnishing!

How to Make Crack Dip

This dip is so easy to throw together!

1. Mix the ingredients. In a medium bowl, mix the sour cream and ranch dressing mix until well combined.

2. Add the extras. Fold in the crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, and most of the green onions (reserve some for garnish).

3. Chill. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, but preferably 24 hours to allow the flavors to meld together. The longer it chills, the better the flavor.

4. Prepare to serve. When ready to serve, give the dip a good stir. Garnish with the reserved green onions and extra bacon and cheese if desired.

5. Serve and enjoy. Serve cold with chips, crackers, baguette slices, or cut-up vegetables for dipping. Enjoy!

Tips for the Best Crack Dip

These tips will take your dip to the next level of addiction!

  • Room temperature is key. Let the sour cream come to room temperature before mixing to ensure a smooth and creamy dip.
  • Crisp up the bacon. Cook the bacon until it’s extra crispy, as it will soften slightly once mixed into the dip.
  • Quality matters. Use a good quality sharp cheddar cheese for maximum flavor. Shred it yourself for the best texture.
  • Be generous! Before serving, reserve some bacon, cheese, and green onions to garnish the top of the dip.
  • Experiment and have fun. Add diced jalapeños for heat, swap cheddar for Pepper Jack cheese, or add diced chicken to make it heartier.

How to Store

Storing this dip couldn’t be easier!

To Store: Transfer to an air-tight container and keep in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. The high-fat content helps it stay fresh for a few days.

I don’t recommend freezing, as the texture will change. The dairy-based ingredients don’t freeze well.

This addictive crack dip is ready in just 5 minutes! Loaded with bacon, cheese, onions, and ranch seasoning, it’s impossible to resist!

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces sour cream

  • 1 packet (1 oz) ranch dressing mix

  • 1 cup cooked and crumbled bacon (about 12 slices)

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1/3 cup sliced green onions

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, mix together the sour cream and ranch dressing mix until well combined.
  • Fold in the crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, and most of the green onions (reserve some for garnish).
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, but preferably 24 hours to allow the flavors to meld together. The longer it chills, the better the flavor.
  • When ready to serve, give the dip a good stir. Garnish with the reserved green onions and extra bacon and cheese if desired.
  • Serve cold with chips, crackers, baguette slices, or cut-up vegetables for dipping. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For the best flavor, use a good quality, full-fat sour cream. Low-fat versions don’t provide the same creamy texture and rich taste.
  • Cook your own bacon until crispy and crumble it for the freshest bacon flavor. Pre-cooked bacon bits can be too salty.
  • Shred the cheddar cheese from a block for better texture and flavor compared to pre-shredded cheese.
  • Chilling for the full 24 hours really allows the flavors to develop and is worth the wait!
