Candied grapes have taken TikTok by storm. They combine sweet grapes with a crisp ‘candy’ shell, making them the perfect balance of flavor and fun.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound (about 1/2 bag) seedless grapes (any color), washed and dried

  • 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar, divided

  • 1/2 cup water (120ml)

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (5ml)

Instructions

  • Remove the grapes from the stems. Wash and pat dry. Then arrange them in a single layer on a clean kitchen towel to dry.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. Place 1/2 cup granulated sugar in a shallow bowl. Set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar with the water, and lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • When it’s boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer and cook until it thickens slightly, about 5 minutes.
  • Using a toothpick or a skewer, dip each grape into the hot syrup. Coat the entire grape, then let the excess drip off.
  • Immediately roll the syrup-coated grapes in the bowl of granulated sugar until fully covered.
  • Place the candied, sugar-coated grapes on the lined baking sheet. Leave space between each to dry fully.
  • Let the candied grapes cool and harden at room temperature for about 1 hour. Or refrigerate them for 30 minutes to speed up the cooling process.
  • Once the candied grapes have hardened, they are ready to be served. Enjoy them as a sweet treat, or use them to decorate cakes and other desserts.

Notes

  • Use red and green grapes for a fun variety. 
  • Different Coatings: flavored Jello powder (like cherry, watermelon, raspberry, lemon, etc.), crushed Jolly Rancher candy, crushed WarHeads, sour sugar powder, etc. 
  • Ensure the grapes are completely dry before coating them with the syrup and sugar to ensure the sugar adheres well.
  • Store any leftover candied grapes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
