Ingredients for Starbucks Iced Coffee Recipe
- Coarse Ground Coffee: I grind fresh coffee beans to a consistency similar to coarse sea salt. Any brand or roast will do, but for authenticity, I prefer using Starbucks.
- Hot Water: Heat to just below boiling point (around 200°F). This creates the optimal extraction of coffee flavors without scorching the beans.
- Ice Cubes: Any type of ice is fine. The hot coffee will melt the ice, cooling and diluting the concentrated coffee. For a more robust flavor, use coffee iced cubes.
- Milk, Sweetener, or Flavored Syrup (Optional): For customizing your cup! Cold milk for creaminess, sweetener for sweetness, and syrup for sweet flavors. Caramel, pumpkin spice, or vanilla, pick your favorite Starbucks flavor.

How to Make Starbucks Iced Coffee
Here’s my secret to making the ultimate copycat Starbucks iced coffee! It’s smooth, cold, and so ridiculously simple. Once you give it a whirl, you’ll wonder why you weren’t making it all the time.
1. Steep grounds. Pour the hot water (about 200°F) over the coarse coffee grounds and steep for 4 minutes.
2. Strain coffee. Using a French Press or coffee filter, strain the brewed coffee.
3. Pour. Pour the coffee into two tall glasses filled with ice cubes.
4. Customize. Add milk, sweetener, or flavored syrup as desired. Stir and sip.

Tips for the Best Starbucks Iced Coffee
Want your iced coffee to taste just like the coffee chain? Follow my top tips for the Starbucks experience!
- Use Starbucks coffee beans. For the most authentic flavor, I use freshly ground Starbucks coffee beans. A medium roast is best, but a dark roast works too.
- Get the right grind. I use coarse grounds similar to sea salt. Too fine a grind will make the coffee bitter and muddy, while too coarse will not extract enough flavor.
- Stick with the ratio. Stick to a 1:2 coffee-to-water (1 cup of coffee grounds to 2 cups water). This creates a robust brew that will not taste diluted once poured over ice. Or use a 1.5:2 ratio (1 1/2 cups coffee to 2 cups water) for a bolder taste.
- Filter out the junk. Filtered water enhances the coffee flavor by eliminating impurities. Use it for brewing and the ice cubes.
- Pour hot over ice. I know letting it cool first is tempting, but you want to pour the brewed coffee over the ice immediately. This helps chill it quickly and avoid oxidation.
- Go bold with espresso. Love to drink strong coffee? Try freshly brewed espresso instead of coffee. You can use it to make other cold coffee drinks like an iced americano or iced latte. Or my favorite, a vanilla iced latte!
- Sweeten with simple syrup. Sugar won’t dissolve the same as it does in hot coffee, as it leaves you with granules. So I sweeten with simple syrup for the best texture.
- Customize with add-ins. Add a caramel drizzle, vanilla syrup, or cocoa powder. Try coffee ice cubes instead of regular ice. Or, add a splash of a dairy-free creamer like oat milk.
How to Store Iced Coffee
During the summer months, I love brewing a big batch of this coffee to stash in the fridge. It’s a lifesaver for busy mornings and much-needed afternoon boosts.
Keep in mind, cold coffee won’t melt the ice as readily. So your beverage will have a stronger, more concentrated flavor.
If you want to dilute it quickly, add water to reach your desired strength. Or, enjoy it bold and robust straight from the fridge!
To Store: Pour the cooled coffee (without add-ins) into an air-tight container like a mason jar. Refrigerate for up to 1 week. Enjoy within 2-3 days for the best flavor. If you’ve added milk or sweeteners, enjoy it within 2–3 days.

Can I use any coffee brand?
Hi, Julie!
Yes, you can!
Just be aware that your coffee’s taste will directly correlate to the quality and type of beans you use. So be sure to use a brand you like.
For a more authentic Starbucks taste, opt for medium to dark roast Arabica coffee. 🙂
