What is the Starbucks Dragon Drink?

It all started in 2016 when Starbucks introduced the Insta-worthy and super-scrumptious Pink Drink.

When this pretty drink came out, it became an instant hit.

In 2019, however, they replaced the popular concoction with the Dragon Drink. A delectable drink with the same hue but a different fruit base.

Starbucks’ Pink Drink tastes like strawberries, acai, passion fruit, and coconut.

The Dragon Drink is a mix of dragon fruit powder and mango juice. And, of course, the dragon fruit powder gives it its signature pink hue.

It also contains grape juice, coconut milk, green coffee extract, and fresh dragon fruit. This drink is as pretty as it is refreshing.

The combination of fruit juices and coconut gives it a fabulous tropical flavor.

Is Starbucks Dragon Drink Good?

Undeniably so. The Dragon Dragon Drink isn’t only pretty, it is also 100% delightful.

The juices, fruit, and coconut milk create a light, creamy beverage. And it has a wonderful fruity flavor.

Also, it’s not overwhelmingly sweet, which makes it super refreshing.

You may also wonder whether the Dragon Drink is good for you. Unfortunately, much like most Starbucks drinks, it’s not.

But it contains dragon fruit, which is high in nutrients. So, it’s not the unhealthiest beverage you can order at Starbucks.

Which brings me to another point. The great thing about DIY-ing this drink is you can swap the ingredients for healthier options.

For instance, instead of using simple syrup or sugar, go for Stevia instead. Or, instead of coconut milk, try almond milk.

Is Dragon Drink the Same as the Pink Drink?

While they look similar, the Dragon Drink and the Pink Drink are not the same.

The Pink Drink has a strawberry acai base. The Dragon Drink combines mango and dragon fruit.

They both contain grape juice, coconut milk, and green coffee extract. But because of the unique base flavors, they don’t taste alike.

Tips for Making The Best Drink

  • Mix it, mix it good! Mix the drink powders with the water well. You don’t want clumps in your drink!
    • It may take a few seconds until they dissolve into the water, so be patient.
  • No grape juice, no problem. You can substitute it with other fruit juices like apple juice. Pick a light-colored one so it won’t alter the drink’s pink hue.
  • Want a super smooth texture? Strain the mixture through a cheesecloth or coffee filter. This ensures your drink will be 100% smooth and solid particle-free.
  • Not a fan of coconut milk? No worries! You can use your favorite milk but it will alter the taste somewhat.
    • I’ve tried regular and almond milk, and they both taste fantastic.
  • How pink is your drink? The pinkness of the drink depends on how much (or little) coconut milk you add. Adjust accordingly.
  • Don’t want caffeine? Skip the green coffee extract. It won’t affect the drink’s flavor.
  • Avoid a sugar rush. Don’t add a lot of sugar or simple syrup right away. Add gradually until the drink reaches your desired taste.
    • You may not need more sugar if you use sweetened coconut milk.
