Why You’ll Love These Pepperoni Pizza Crescent Rolls

Quick & Easy: These are a total lifesaver when I’m short on time. From pantry to plate in just 30 minutes, they’re so easy—no fancy techniques or long ingredient lists here.

Cheesy Perfection: The melted mozzarella cheese pulls apart in the best way, giving you that perfect cheesy stretch with every bite. It's pure comfort food!

Flavor Explosion: The spicy pepperoni, melty mozzarella, and buttery crescent dough come together in a classic combo that’s both comforting and flavorful.

Endlessly Customizable: Want to switch up the cheese? Add different meats? Throw in some veggies? These rolls are a blank canvas, ready for your favorite pizza toppings and tasty fillings.

Ingredients You'll Need

  • Crescent Roll Dough: Quick and convenient, these premade crescent roll dough sheets provide a buttery, flaky exterior. I’ve tried other brands, but nothing compares to Pillsbury Crescent Rolls!
  • Pepperoni Slices: These spicy, slightly crispy meat rounds deliver classic pizza taste. They add a rich, savory dimension to each bite.
  • Mozzarella String Cheese: For that irresistibly cheesy pull and melty interior. They melt perfectly and distribute evenly, ensuring gooey mozzarella cheese in every roll.
  • Olive Oil or Melted Butter: The secret to the golden, glossy exterior. Either will help the flaky crescent rolls brown evenly and add a subtle richness to the overall flavor.
  • Italian Seasoning: A blend of herbs instantly elevates the rolls from simple to spectacular. Typically, it includes oregano, basil, rosemary, garlic, and thyme.
  • Pizza Sauce: Optional, but recommended. Warm pizza sauce is the perfect companion for these rolls. Depending on my mood, I’ll opt for other tasty dipping sauces like ranch or honey mustard.

How to Make Pepperoni Pizza Crescent Rolls

Making pepperoni crescent rolls is so easy, it almost feels like cheating.

It’s one of those recipes that comes together in minutes but tastes like you put in way more effort (my favorite kind). Here’s how I make them:

1. Prepare. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Assemble. Unroll the crescent roll dough and add 3 or 4 pepperoni slices to the thick end of each one. Top with half a string cheese then roll them up.

3. Bake. Place the rolls on the prepared baking sheet seam-side-down. Brush with your choice of oil or melted butter, and sprinkle Italian seasoning before baking. Then, bake for 12 to 15 minutes until done.

4. Cool and serve. Let the rolls cool on the baking sheet for just a few moments. Then, serve with pizza sauce for dipping, and enjoy!

Tips for the Best Pepperoni Pizza Crescent Rolls

This is a simple crescent roll appetizer anyone can whip up.

Want to take your pepperoni pizza crescent rolls from good to absolutely irresistible? I’ve got you covered.

Here are some of my quick tips (and a few variations):

  • Prevent cheese leakage. Seal the edges of each crescent roll tightly. This will prevent cheese from escaping during baking. Pinch the seams carefully to create a complete seal.
  • Overlap the pepperoni. Overlapping the slices at the wide end of the triangle ensures even coverage, so you get pepperoni in every bite—which is the name of the game here.
  • Dial up the flavor. I always sprinkle a light dusting of Italian seasoning or grated Parmesan cheese on the dough before adding pepperoni and cheese. I also like to add a little extra garlic powder or onion powder, too.
  • Change up the cheese. For more flavor, I add grated Parmesan on top before baking. You can also use shredded mozzarella or shredded cheddar cheese instead of mozzarella sticks. Just be sure to shred it freshly instead of using the bagged kind.
  • Try tasty add-ins. Swap the pepperoni for other tasty fillings like BBQ chicken, ham, ground beef, or sausage. For a vegetarian-friendly version, use finely diced onions, peppers, and mushrooms.
  • Don’t overstuff! I know it feels tempting to fill them to the brim, but resist the urge. If you overstuff them, it will make them that much harder to seal properly.

How to Store Cheesy Pepperoni Pizza Crescent Rolls

If you somehow end up with leftovers (impressive restraint, by the way), storing these Pepperoni Pizza Crescent Rolls is easy.

Here’s how I keep them fresh—and how I make them ahead to always have a stash in the freezer:

To Store: Let the rolls cool fully. Then, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 4 days.

To Freeze: Place fully cooled pepperoni pizza crescent rolls in a freezer-safe container. Freeze for 2 to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.

To Make Ahead: Assemble the rolls and freeze them unbaked. Wrap each roll individually and place them in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Bake straight from frozen, adding 2 to 3 minutes to the baking time.

Can I make them in the air fryer?

Absolutely! Set the temperature of your air fryer to 380 degrees, and bake for about 8-10 minutes until golden.

Also, sorry forgot to ask, it say oil or butter to brush. It is salted or unsalted? And can I substitute to garlic butter instead?

If I don’t have crescent roll dough, can I use pizza dough instead.
