20 Popular M&M Flavors To Try

Have you ever wondered how many different M&M flavors there actually are? And no, I don’t mean red, yellow, blue, green, etc.

I mean actual M&M flavors.

20 Popular M&M Flavors To Try featuring Regular M&M's Chocolate Candies Spilling Out of Brown Packet

Fun M&M Flavors

There are regular M&M’s and peanut M&M’s, of course. But the list does not stop there.

Through the years, there have been a lot of other options.

Remember pumpkin spice M&M’s? How about dark chocolate, mint dark chocolate, or English toffee M&M’s?

Yeah, there are lots of different M&M flavors.

Some you have heard of, and some you may have not. But I wanna talk about all the flavors!

1. Peanut M&M’s

Peanut M&M’s top the list for me because they’re my favorite. And I am not the only one.

Almost everyone enjoys a pack of peanut M&M’s now and then.

(Barring any allergies, of course.)

In fact, peanut M&M’s were the official snack of the Olympic Games in 1984. (So were plain M&M’s– 1984 was a good year for the Mars company.)

They taste like the traditional milk chocolate M&M’s. But with a salty, nutty crunch in the middle. Talk about tasty!

Mars has since expanded their peanut M&M line to include different chocolates.

2. Plain Milk Chocolate M&M’s

These are your plain, old-fashioned M&M’s. They’re simple, chocolatey, colorful, and delicious.

They have their signature candy shell coating to provide a little crunch.

And they contain 100% chocolate on the inside. These were the first of Mars’ M&M’s products.

They continue to be one of the most popular today.

In 1996, Mars even released a smaller version called M&M’s Minis.

3. Pretzel M&M’s

Pretzel M&M’s are the perfect mix of sweet and salty.

And pretzel M&M’s are extra crunchy! Besides the thin candy shell, these have a pretzel at the center of each candy.

The dense center makes it harder to get through these particular M&M’s. They take longer to eat, extending the pleasure you get from them.

The salty pretzel center also gives them that delectable, sweet-n-salty balance. That, more than anything else, is what makes them so perfect.

4. Peanut Butter M&M’s

Red Movie Theater-Style Box of Peanut Butter M&Ms

Though not my favorite flavor, peanut butter M&M’s ranks #1 on Mashed’s list of M&M flavors.

These M&M’s first appeared in 1989 and quickly became a best-seller.

They’re larger than plain M&M’s but smaller than peanut M&M’s.

And at the center of each one is a luscious ball of peanut buttery goodness.

It’s thick, creamy, and has just a touch of honey to sweeten it. And as we already know, people love that good old PB and chocolate combo.

5. Dark Chocolate M&M’s

Dark chocolate M&M’s come in plain and peanut varieties. They’re just like the traditional plain and peanut M&M’s, with one notable exception.

These feature with dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate.

And for the dark chocolate lovers in the world– me!– that makes all the difference.

They have the distinct bittersweet taste of all dark chocolate and taste divine.

The dark chocolate peanut M&M’s are even better. But more on those later.

6. Mint Dark Chocolate M&M’s

These M&M’s are like the dark chocolate ones above. However, they add an extra minty freshness that takes them to another level.

Some people describe these as tasting like Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies. Others insist they taste more like Andes mints.

Either way, they are full of rich dark chocolate and minty yumminess.

7. Crunchy Cookie M&M’s

Crunchy cookie M&M’s are an exciting addition to the Mars line.

Before trying these candies, some people assume they’re cookie dough-flavored. That is not the case, though.

Inside the chocolate candy shell, these M&M’s have crunchy cookie centers. (Not cookie dough, mind you, but chunks of baked cookies.)

The cookies taste like buttery sugar cookies, only crunchier and meltier. But while their taste is fantastic, their look and size leave much to be desired.

These are oddly shaped and lumpy– almost like they were M&M rejects.

They’re also small, so eating them by the handful is (pretty much) a requirement.

8. Caramel Cold Brew M&M’s

These hard-to-find M&M’s are a favorite of mine, though tracking them down takes some work.

Sold in a brown box, these coffee-infused M&M’s are bittersweet, robust, and super tasty.

They contain no actual coffee, so they won’t give you that daily burst of caffeine. However, you cannot tell by tasting them.

They have a delicious coffee and caramel flavor!

If caramel macchiatos are your fave drink, you will love caramel cold brew M&M’s.

9. Fudge Brownie M&M’s

These brownie-centered M&M’s are every chocolate lover’s dream come true.

They feature rich, fudgy chocolate from the shell to the brownie-flavored centers. (And everywhere in between!)

Of course, the real distinction for this M&M is not its taste but its texture. These are dense and chewy- almost soft- all the way through.

It is a shock to the senses for most people expecting the crunchy M&M shell. But it is also what many people love about this variety.

10. Almond M&M’s

Want an M&M that is even larger than the peanut M&M? Try almond M&M’s instead. They are huge (in M&M terms, anyway) and taste incredible.

Each chocolate candy shell holds a crunchy, nutty almond at its center.

The combo of chocolate and almonds is tasty enough. But you will also notice hints of vanilla in every candy.

This is a winning combination that every nut lover will appreciate.

11. Caramel M&M’s

Of all the M&M packages, the royal blue color of caramel M&M’s is the most recognizable.

I see that deep shade of blue and know what it is. No label is necessary.

The M&M’s themselves are less distinctive. They’re medium-sized, somewhat oval-shaped, and feature all the traditional M&M colors.

Their taste is sugary and a bit artificial. In fact, the caramel flavor is not very strong here.

Most of the time, caramel and chocolate are a match made in heaven. In M&M form? Meh- you can find better ways to enjoy the combo.

But don’t get me wrong- these are still tasty! There are just better M&Ms on this list.

And better chocolate and caramel treats out in the world.

However, caramel M&Ms are gooey and chewy (pro!). And they taste best when paired with something salty. (Like popcorn, chips, or pretzels.)

12. White Chocolate M&M’s

White chocolate M&M’s are just what they claim to be. They are M&M’s made with rich white chocolate.

There are plain white chocolate M&M’s and peanut white chocolate M&M’s.

Both have a strong, sweet white chocolate flavor. The peanut variety has a bit more crunch.

13. Crispy M&M’s

Individual Pack of Crispy M&M’s

Crispy M&M’s are not in my top 5 favorite M&M flavors. However, they are super fun to eat!

Each one has crisped rice at its center. It makes for a crunchy, snap-crackle-pop mouthfeel.

They taste similar to Rice Krispie treats made with Cocoa Pebbles.

Crispy M&M’s are mild. But these are still chocolatey enough to get your daily chocolate fix.

14. English Toffee M&M’s

These maple syrup-scented M&M’s are rich, comforting, and understated. They come only in shades of brown and have an intense aroma.

Sadly, the toffee flavor doesn’t come through as strongly as it would in a Heath bar. Or a SKOR bar.

There’s a lot of chocolate and a hint of toffee in these M&Ms.

They taste fine, but I love toffee. So, I was hoping for something a little more exciting.

15. Hazelnut Spread M&M’s

If you are imagining a Nutella-filled M&M, slow your roll. In theory, that is what these should be.

But the hazelnut spread is less robust and flavorful than true Nutella.

Instead, like the English toffee M&M’s above, this flavor falls flat. It has a rich chocolatey taste, but the hazelnut spread pales in comparison.

These are not as nutty as you might think, but they taste okay. And they are quite popular in some parts of the world.

16. Dark Chocolate Peanut M&M’s

This M&M variety is simply the original peanut M&M’s but made with dark chocolate.

Their tastes are similar, but this variety is darker and more indulgent.

These have a more bittersweet flavor that dark chocolate lovers will appreciate. But they are still salty, nutty, and extra crunchy.

17. Orange Vanilla Crème M&M’s

Though popular with many people, orange vanilla crème M&M’s are not my thing.

They have a cute white and orange color scheme that makes them perfect for Halloween.

However, their taste is not one I can get behind. Mars was obviously going for a Push-Up or orange Creamsicle flavor.

Instead, I think they taste artificial and almost medicinal. #isaidwhatisaid

Still, these are consistently ranked among M&M’s top 20 flavors. So, many people do enjoy it.

Maybe it is like cilantro– you must have a specific gene to appreciate it.

18. White Chocolate Sugar Cookie M&M’s

These holiday M&M’s sport red, white, and green colors and a festive bag. And unlike some M&M flavors, these taste just like what their name implies.

They taste like sugar cookies and white chocolate. These M&M’s are sweet, rich, and totally delicious.

They are also the perfect M&M’s for baking into cookies.

19. Candy Corn M&M’s

Need festive M&M’s for Halloween instead of Christmas? These candy corn M&M’s are just the thing!

They have a lovely white, yellow, and orange color scheme and taste like pure sugar.

Seriously, these candy-coated balls of yum are the closest you can get to mainlining sugar.

Like some other sweet M&M varieties, these taste best when mixed with something salty.

Use them to make Halloween Chex Mix, or throw them in with popcorn or pretzels. Otherwise, these are nearly too sweet to eat.

20. Pumpkin Spice M&M’s

These, too, are perfect for Halloween. They have a Halloween-themed color scheme and a robust pumpkin spice flavor.

(Proof that companies will put pumpkin spice in anything!)

These taste like pure chocolate infused with pumpkin pie spice. They smell good and look lovely. The pumpkin spice lovers will have a heyday with these!

And like the candy corn M&M’s above, they work better when mixed with savory items.

Mix them with pretzels, Chex, nuts, and other ingredients for a fall harvest snack mix.

Other Non-Traditional Flavors

The above 20 flavors are some of M&M’s best. But they certainly aren’t Mars’ only M&M flavors.

Through the years, the company has developed all kinds of fantastical combinations.

Some of them worked really well. And some of them should never have seen the light of day.

Check out the following list.
