Whether mashed, baked, or fried, they’re sensational no matter how you prepare them.

To say that it was a challenge to put this list together is an understatement. There are just way too many scrumptious potato dishes out there!

But after days of serious contemplation, I’m finally ready to share my definitive list of the best Russet potato recipes!

Can I just say, each of the recipes featured here is beyond phenomenal.

There’s no filler here, just 23 extremely mouthwatering potato dishes that will exceed all your expectations.

1. Baked Potato

Let’s start things off with a basic potato recipe.

Nothing beats the deliciousness of a simple, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside baked potato!

These baked potatoes have beautifully golden skins seasoned with some crunchy salt.

Inside is tender and creamy flesh that doesn’t even require much chewing. It just melts in your mouth.

Top the potatoes with a dab of butter for pure, unadulterated spud goodness.

2. Air Fryer Potato Wedges

Craving French fries but trying to cut back on fat? Say no more! These air fryer potato wedges will scratch that itch right up.

These wedges are perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

They’re extremely addictive, but at least, they’re air-fried.

The fact that they’re oil-free means they’re a much healthier option than greasy fries.

3. Roast Potatoes

Here’s another healthy alternative to French fries. Instead of deep-frying the spuds, you’ll simply pop them in the oven.

Apart from the signature roasted potato texture, you’ll also love this snack for its flavor.

Seasoned with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper, there’s no denying these guys are wildly delish.

4. PERFECT Au Gratin Potatoes

Au gratin potatoes are similar to scalloped potatoes, but they’re five times better.

This dish is made of thinly-sliced potatoes bathed in a creamy cheddar sauce, topped with cheese, and baked to golden perfection.

Each spoonful of potato oozes with cream and cheese, which we all know is a heavenly combination.

5. Lighthouse Inn Potatoes Copycat

Chunky potatoes are coated with a creamy sauce and topped with a cheesy and crunchy breadcrumb topping.

Sounds familiar? That must mean you grew up in Connecticut! This dish is a copycat of the iconic Lighthouse Inn potatoes.

Sadly, the inn had to close down in 2008, so you’ll no longer get to try the OG dish. Thankfully, this recipe makes a pretty impressive replica.

6. Diner Style Fried Potatoes And Onions

Perhaps the only thing better than fried potatoes is fried potatoes AND onions. Together, these two create the most mind-blowing tastes and textures.

Serve this diner-style dish with a side of fried eggs for the ultimate breakfast of champions.

7. Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes

If you haven’t tried mashed potatoes with sour cream yet, you’re missing out.

Once you’ve tried these mashed potatoes, I’m pretty sure you’ll switch recipes.

You’ll love the perfect balance of flavors in this dish. The potatoes are buttery and the sour cream does a fine job at cutting down its richness.

The dish is fantastic as it is, but you can doll it up even more with cheese, herbs, and garlic.

8. Oven-Baked Potato Wedges

These oven-baked potato wedges are too good not to try.

They’re crispy on the outside and pillowy tender on the inside.

Considering this recipe doesn’t call for much oil (just one tablespoon), that’s a big achievement.

The flavors are on the spot, too. Seasoned with onion and garlic powder, parmesan, salt, and pepper, these potato wedges are crazy good.

9. Loaded Breakfast Casserole with Hash Brown Crust

Loaded with potatoes, eggs, veggies, and bacon, this casserole is what breakfast dreams are made of.

It’s absolutely hearty, for sure, and the flavors and textures are just spot on. No surprises there.

The crazy thing about it, though, is that it’s Whole30-compliant. How awesome is that?

10. Scalloped Potatoes

I think we can all agree that potatoes are fantastic no matter how you slice them. But for me, they taste best when they’re thinly sliced.

Layered on top of each other, the potatoes create such a lovely texture!

Add some creamy sauce into the picture and lots of grated cheese on top, and you’ll get a mind-blowing, show-stopping dish.

11. Garlic Butter Baked Hasselback Potatoes

These Hasselback potatoes are extra crunchy and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

Cutting slits into the potatoes is a great technique for adding more surface area for flavors.

It allows for toppings to permeate the potatoes, enhancing their flavor even more.

12. Crockpot Veggie Loaded Baked Potato Soup

This potato soup is outrageously thick, creamy, and delicious.

You’d think it’d be loaded with milk or cream, but nope, the recipe doesn’t require any.

The secret? Simple: use the slow cooker. Sure, it takes time, but there’s almost zero work required and it’s definitely worth the wait.

13. Twice Baked Potatoes

Potatoes are great when baked, but even greater when baked twice.

From the crispy skin to the buttery flesh and the overflowing toppings, these twice-baked potatoes are simply irresistible.

They’re a perfect side dish to serve on holidays and special occasions, but they’re easy enough to make on any given day.

14. Light and Tender Potato Gnocchi With Sage-Butter Sauce

Anybody here who’s a major fan of gnocchi? I feel you! I’m obsessed with these dumplings myself.

They’re soft and pillowy, slightly chewy, and just simply magnificent. In fact, you won’t even need a complicated sauce to finish it.

A simple sage-butter combo is more than enough.

15. Steakhouse Style Garlic Mashed Potatoes

These steakhouse-style mashed potatoes are silky, creamy, and bursting with flavor.

The great thing about mashed potatoes is they’re pretty perfect as they are.

But throw in some garlic to the mix, and they become a hundred times better.

The combination of potatoes, cheese, buttermilk, and garlic is simply divine.

16. Fries with Parmesan & Herbs

Want to make those oven-baked fries extra crispy on the outside? This recipe has you covered.

Besides the impeccable texture, these fries are also a must-try for their flavor.

Showered with parmesan and herbs, they’re wonderfully salty, earthy, and just purely delightful.

17. Fondant Potatoes with Russet Idaho® Potatoes

If you’re looking for a new way to cook potatoes, look no further.

Fondant potatoes is a French cooking method wherein the potatoes are cut into cylinders.

They’re then eared with butter and simmered in chicken broth, and herbs.

This unique method creates a crispy crust around the potatoes and super tender and creamy flesh.

They’re very buttery, but the herbs and aromatics balance out the richness well.

18. Crispy Potato Latkes

These potato pancakes are super crispy and creamy! Serve them with a dollop of sour cream or applesauce for the perfect snack.

19. Chili Cheese Stuffed Potato Skins

These crispy potato skins are topped with chili and cheese.

Combining three of the most addictive things on earth makes this dish a bombshell of epic proportions.

20. Potato Soup

Here’s a creamy and savory soup filled with chunks of potatoes.

One spoonful will satisfy your tastebuds and soothe your heart and soul.

21. Coconut Chicken Curry with Potatoes

In the mood for Indian food? This chicken curry is exactly what you need.

The juicy chicken and the creamy curry sauce are definitely the stars here. But the potatoes play a huge part in the success of the dish as well.

22. Chicken Pot Pie with Homemade Tater Tots

Shake up the classic chicken pot pie to a whole new level with tater tots!

I think topping the pie with tater tots is a genius idea. It creates a crispy outer crust and makes the dish even more satisfying.

It transforms an already flawless dish even more phenomenal.

23. Beef Stew with Potatoes

This hearty beef stew is comfort food at its best.

It’s filled with tender beef, hearty veggies, and a delectable broth.

This is the kind of dish you’ll want around when you’re not at a hundred percent.

One spoonful of this stew will instantly cure all the blues!
