Why You’ll Love This Red Velvet Martini

Dessert in a Glass: This cocktail captures the essence of red velvet cake in an elegant, drinkable format. It’s sweet and delicious but will save you a few calories over the real deal.

Perfect for Special Occasions: Serve these for Date Night, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, or a fun girls’ night out. They’re even a delightful treat for Mom on Mother’s Day.

Customizable Liqueur Combinations: This recipe allows for creative mixing with flavored vodkas, liqueurs, and chocolate spirits. You can also jazz up the garnishes however you like.

Ingredients

  • Vanilla Vodka: The primary alcoholic base. It adds a smooth, sweet vanilla undertone that complements the rich chocolate and cream.
  • Cream Liqueur: (Such as Baileys Irish Cream.) It gives the martini richness, creaminess, and a luxurious texture. The velvety mouthfeel is reminiscent of classic red velvet cake.
  • Simple Syrup: It balances the cocktail’s flavors. It adds sweetness and helps integrate the different ingredients.
  • Cocoa Powder: It introduces a deep chocolate flavor. It also provides the authentic red velvet cake-inspired taste.
  • Red Sanding Sugar: It provides a festive, vibrant red rim. It enhances the visual appeal of the martini and adds a sweet, decorative touch.
  • Ice: For chilling and properly diluting the cocktail.
  • Chocolate Hearts: The cocktail is certainly decadent enough without this optional touch. However, the hearts offer an elegant garnish to reinforce its dessert-like character.

How to Make a Red Velvet Martini

Follow these easy steps to whip up this delicious dessert cocktail

1. Coat the rims. Add a bit of simple syrup to the rim of two glasses, then coat them in red sanding sugar.

2. Mix. Add the ice, vanilla vodka, cream liqueur, simple syrup, and cocoa powder to a cocktail shaker. Mix vigorously for 30 to 40 seconds until frothy.

3. Garnish and serve. Strain the mixture into the prepared glasses. Dust with a sprinkle of cocoa and add a chocolate heart (if using). Sip and savor!

Tips for the Best Red Velvet Martini

Here are a few of my best tips and tricks (and variations) for this recipe:

  • Keep things chilly. Freeze your martini glasses for 15 to 30 minutes before making the drink. Also, chill your ingredients to keep the drink as cold as possible for as long as possible.
  • Use premium spirits. The vanilla vodka and liqueur must be high-quality. The spirits’ quality directly impacts the cocktail’s taste. High-end cocoa is also important.
  • Taste and adjust. Add as much or as little simple syrup as you like. Some prefer a sweeter cocktail, while others like a more balanced flavor. Add it gradually so it doesn’t become too sugary.
  • Have fun with garnishes. Chocolate hearts are only one option. You can also garnish with whipped cream, red sprinkles, or even a mini red velvet cupcake!
  • Make it red! As written, the recipe yields a lovely light cocoa-colored drink. Add a touch of red food coloring for a reddish hue in each serving.
  • Add a nutty finish. Add a shot or two of hazelnut liqueur for a richer, nuttier flavor.

This smooth and creamy red velvet martini is such a treat! With vanilla vodka, Baileys, and cocoa powder, it's like dessert in a glass.

Ingredients

  • red sanding sugar, for rimming the glass

  • ice

  • 4 ounces vanilla vodka

  • 2 ounces cream liqueur (like Baileys)

  • 1 ounce simple syrup + more for rimming the glass

  • 2 teaspoons cocoa powder + more for dusting

  • chocolate hearts (optional)

Instructions

  • Coat the rims of two chilled martini glasses lightly with simple syrup. Roll the rims in a shallow dish filled with red sanding sugar to coat them.
  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the vanilla vodka, cream liqueur, simple syrup, and cocoa powder.
  • Shake vigorously for 30-40 seconds until frothy.
  • Strain equally into the rimmed glasses.
  • Garnish each glass with a sprinkle of cocoa and a chocolate heart, if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Chill your glasses and ingredients to keep the drink icy cold.
  • Use premium spirits and cocoa for the best taste.
  • Add a few drops of red food coloring for that classic red velvet color.
  • Adjust the amount of simple syrup to suit your tastes.
