Ingredients
- Cream Cheese: The rich, creamy base that binds all the other ingredients together. Set it out at least an hour (or more) early so it’s soft enough to work with.
- Crushed Pineapple: Adds moisture and a sweet, tangy flavor to balance the cream cheese’s richness.
- Pecans: Mix some into the cheese ball and save some for the coating. They provide a crunchy texture and earthy nuttiness.
- Red & Green Bell Pepper: For color and a mild, sweet crunch.
- Onion: I used scallions in the ball, then sprinkled diced red onion over the top for a peppery bite.
- Seasoning Salt: Enhances the overall flavor with a blend of salt and various spices.
- Cayenne: Optional for those who enjoy a bit of heat.
- Worcestershire Sauce: For added depth.

How to Make Pineapple Cheese Ball
This super simple pineapple cheese ball brings a perfect blend of sweet and savory to your appetizer spread.
The tropical twist of pineapple adds an unexpected brightness to the creamy, nutty base. Meanwhile, the colorful peppers and onions provide just the right amount of crunch and zip.
But believe it or not, you can have it chilling in the fridge in a matter of minutes!
1. BEAT the cream cheese, salt, Worcestershire sauce, and cayenne in a large bowl until smooth and lump-free.
2. ADD the peppers, onions, pineapple, and half the pecans. Stir until combined.
3. FORM the mixture into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight.
4. COAT the cheese ball in the remaining pecans by rolling it gently on a flat surface.
5. SPRINKLE with red onion and herbs. Serve with crackers and enjoy!

Tips for the Best Pineapple Cheese Ball
Cheese ball recipes are usually quite easy and endlessly customizable.
To make this one even simpler, I’ve included a few tips and variations:
- Soften the cream cheese. This is especially important if you mix the ingredients by hand (instead of with a mixer). It’ll give you a smoother, creamier texture.
- Drain the pineapple thoroughly. Use a fine mesh strainer to drain the crushed pineapple completely. Also, press out excess liquid to avoid a watery cheese ball.
- Season to taste. Start with a teaspoon of seasoning salt (plus the Worcestershire sauce), mix well, and taste. Add more if you need it.
- Refrigerate until firm. The recipe recommends refrigerating the cheese ball overnight. But you can get by with just 2-4 hours if you’re pressed for time. Just be sure the ball is nice and firm before coating it in the nuts.
- Toast the pecans. Though not required, it will greatly enrich their flavor. Toast in a dry skillet over medium heat for 4-5 minutes until fragrant.
- Decorate with festive shapes. Make it into a pumpkin for Halloween or Thanksgiving or a holiday ornament for Christmas.
- Add protein. Mix in finely minced ham or cooked and crumbled bacon for a heartier appetizer.

What to Serve with a Pineapple Cheese Ball
You can serve Ritz crackers, saltines, or Triscuits with your cheese ball. Or double up on the cheesiness with cheese-flavored crackers.
Non-cracker serving suggestions include:
- Fresh vegetables
- Fruit slices
- Toasted baguette slices
- Pretzels
- Toasted mini bagels
- Pita bread
How to Store
This cheese ball flies off the table quickly. But if you have any leftovers, don’t throw them out!
To Store: Wrap leftovers tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks. Store without the pecan coating if possible, as they will soften over time.
Note: I don't recommend freezing as the cream cheese can turn watery after thawing.

This is a wonderful recipe. For a festive presentation, I cut a fresh pineapple in half, leaving the crown intact. Hollow out the pineapple and fill it with the cheese ball mixture.
Love that, Tom!!
Beautiful and delicious!
