These Passover breakfast recipes are the perfect way to kick off your daily celebrations.
And they go way beyond the usual matzo brei!
20 Delicious Breakfasts for Passover
As with many holidays, Passover is rooted in religious reverence and culture. Which means it comes with specific dietary requirements.
But that doesn’t mean boring, tasteless food. And these breakfasts prove it!
Each one is scrumptious and customizable to your family’s tastes.
So check out these Passover breakfast recipes and let me know which one you like best.
Chag Pesach Sameach!
1. Matzo Brei
I had to start with a classic, and matzo brei (fried matzo) is about as classic as Jewish breakfasts get.
It’s basically butter-fried matzo and scrambled eggs – though that may be too basic a description.
Because this dish can be really creative, depending on the toppings you add.
You can even make it sweet or salty, and both are fantastic.
One of the most popular combinations is served with sour cream and applesauce. This yields a sweet, salty, super textural dish that is just plain tasty.
2. Passover Pancakes
One of the most important dietary restrictions on Passover surrounds bread.
Leavened and fermented bread is prohibited. But the focus is specifically on yeast and wheat products.
Jews at the time did not have the leavening agents we have today. So, if your baking powder and baking soda are marked as Pesadik, they’re okay to use.
Therefore, you can still have wonderfully fluffy pancakes on Passover! In fact, this recipe is pretty much like any classic pancake recipe.
EXCEPT for the flour. Instead of all-purpose or wheat flour, you’ll use matzo meal and potato starch.
3. Overnight Matza Breakfast Bake
This delectable dish is just like that French toast bake your mom makes for brunch. Only it’s kosher for Passover!
So instead of bread, you’ll use matza.
But the matza is soaked in a sweet and creamy custard. So, this is far from your average matza dish.
Plus, it’s loaded with cinnamon, sugar, and raisins. Yum!
4. Matzo Brei Eggs Benedict with Lox
The very descriptive name says it all. It’s like you mixed eggs benedict, matzo brei, and bagels and lox into one dish.
One delicious dish.
This egg-a-licious breakfast features a base of salty scrambled egg matzo brei with asparagus. That’s topped with smoked salmon (lox) and two more eggs.
And like any good Benedict, it’s drenched in an eggy, creamy, delicious Hollandaise sauce.
5. Passover French Toast
If you have a sweet tooth, then this is the breakfast for you!
Because it’s basically dessert. But there are eggs and oranges, so it’s definitely breakfast.
Since you can’t have actual toast during Passover, you make do. With cake. A deliciously light and airy matzo citrus sponge cake to be exact.
Cut it into slices, dip it in batter, and fry it like French toast. You can’t tell me that doesn’t sound tantalizing!
Serve it with fresh fruit for a superb start to your morning.
6. Almond Flour Banana Muffins
While these muffins are perfect for Passover, they’re honestly fabulous any time of year!
They’re so tasty and so easy, you’re gonna want to make them all the time.
Each little muffin bursts with sweet banana flavor and rich chocolate chips.
Plus, the almond flour adds just a hint of nuttiness. Which is absolutely delish!
7. Mozzarella, Mushroom, and Eggplant Shakshuka
Clearly, egg dishes are popular for Passover.
But this Middle Eastern egg breakfast might be my favorite one on the list! It’s incredibly flavorful down to the last morsel.
Shakshuka is basically poached eggs in an irresistibly spiced tomato and veggie sauce.
And this particular recipe features roasted eggplant and sautéed mushrooms. It’s heavenly.
But my favorite part is the ooey-gooey, seriously stringy rounds of mozzarella.
8. Passover Potato Kugel
Potato kugel is like a giant’s serving of latkes. It’s made to share, and it’s a little easier to make than the potato pancakes.
Because it’s one big, baked, potato-filled casserole!
So, you don’t need to spend a bunch of time flipping and frying.
9. Noodle Kugel
Noodle kugel is the classic kugel. And it’s classic for a reason – it’s flipping delectable.
First, it’s loaded with noodles, and that’s always good. Second, it’s super creamy and indulgent.
Third, every spoonful, forkful, or fingerful is packed with flavor!
Oh, and did I mention that it’s sweet? Yep. This is a sweet, custardy breakfast bake loaded with raisins, cinnamon, and yumminess.
10. Vegan Matzo Brei
So, what if you have extra dietary restrictions during Passover? No problem! This vegan matzo brei has got you covered.
For both the sweet and savory versions!
This recipe features absolutely no eggs or dairy of any kind. So it’s totally plant-based.
Instead, you’ll use quinoa as the sort-of-sticky element to hold everything together.

11. Charoset Smoothie
For the non-Jewish folks here, charoset is a delectable paste made of fruit and nuts.
Which is kinda ideal for a smoothie! And it’s never a bad idea to add extra protein and fiber to your smoothies, right?
This recipe features charoset plus yogurt, a banana, milk, and almond butter. Plus some ice for extra coolness.
Every sip is sweet, nutty, fruity, and filling!
12. Cheesy Muffins with Almond Flour
Hear me out… Cheddar Bay Biscuits from Red Lobster, but make them kosher for Passover.
And just gluten-free in general. Sign me up!
They’re also low-carb! So, basically, these are like guilt-free crack muffins.
13. Make-Ahead Fruit and Yogurt Breakfast Parfaits
Make-ahead dishes are always beneficial for busy families. This is especially true during the holidays.
And with so much to celebrate during Passover, easy dishes are necessary.
Enter these fruit and yogurt breakfast parfaits.
They’re so nutritious, full of antioxidants, good fiber, and healthy fats.
Plus, they’re customizable. You can choose to add whatever fruits you and your family love.
14. Pan-Fried Matzo Breakfast
This delicious matzo brei is served with jam.
So, it features a delicious combination of sweetness and saltiness.
It may sound odd but trust me, your tongue will thank you!
15. Passover Bagels
Who doesn’t love a good bagel? Or a good mini-bagel-bread-roll-carby-thing… as we see in this delicious recipe.
You can eat them alongside your dinner. Or you can serve them with cream cheese and lox.
Whatever you do, you’ll love them.
Because they’re savory, with a hint of sweetness that will surprise your taste buds. I promise you’ll want to make these a regular part of your menu.
16. Passover Donuts with Pistachios and Rose Water Syrup
These sweet and sticky chunks of fried dough are seriously fantastic.
They’re like the love child of donut holes and baklava. And you really can’t go wrong with that.
Especially when the flavor profile features both nutty and floral elements. They’re also very well-spiced.
Every bite will tickle your taste buds with warm cinnamon and cardamom. And the rose water syrup? Oh boy…it’s floral and citrusy and oh-so-sweet!
17. Passover Cheese Blintzes
I’ve always thought that blintz was such a fun word. And honestly, that tracks, because this is a fun dish.
And a delicious one, too!
Blintzes are basically the Jewish version of French crepes or the Russian blini. They’re a thin, totally rollable pancake that’s just plain yummy.
These ones are Pesadik and made with matzo meal. And they’re stuffed with a savory, creamy cottage cheese mixture that’s to die for.
18. Perfect Scrambled Eggs
It’s never a bad idea to have a basic, delicious scrambled egg recipe on hand.
No matter the customizations you add, they’ll be perfect every time.
And if you couldn’t tell, eggs are totally Passover-friendly. So make a big batch and dig in!
19. Potato-Crusted Spinach Frittata
Eggs and hash browns are a classic breakfast combo. But when you turn them into a Kosher, quiche-like frittata? Even better!
This dish is so yummy, you’ll be surprised that it’s actually fairly healthy.
It’s loaded with eggs, potatoes, and spinach for good protein, iron, and other antioxidants.
Plus, the potato crust is really darn delectable. It’s so crispy, which is perfectly contrasted by the soft eggs.
A little goat cheese adds just the right amount of creaminess to boot.
20. Passover Potato Latkes
Potato Latkes are traditionally served at Hanukkah, but they’re delicious any time of year.
And as they are technically Passover-friendly, you may as well add them to your menu.
Because who doesn’t love super crispy potato pancakes?
People without taste buds, that’s who.
These latkes are made with potatoes, matzo meal, eggs, and onions.
Everything is blitzed together in a food processor until the veggies are finely chopped. Then, you make patties and fry them until they’re golden!
They’re freaking delicious.
