How To Make Milk Chocolate

Did you know you can make milk chocolate at home with as few as four ingredients?

And it’s way easier than you think, I swear!

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cups Cocoa Butter
  • 4 1/2 tablespoons of Whole Milk Powder
  • 1/2 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1 – 1 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar

Method:

  1. Set a double-boiler on the stove with 2 inches of water in the bottom. Alternatively, add 2 inches of water to a tall, heavy-bottomed saucepan and place a heat-proof bowl on top.
  2. Add the cocoa butter to the top pot or the heat-proof bowl and turn the heat to medium.
  3. Stir with a spatula until melted and smooth.
  4. Turn the heat to low, sift the cocoa powder over the top, and mix well until glossy and chocolatey.
  5. Add the milk powder and half of the powdered sugar, then stir until smooth.
  6. Carefully taste the chocolate mixture and add more powdered sugar as needed.
  7. Turn the heat off but keep stirring for another 3-5 minutes.
  8. Take the top pot or bowl off the heat and put it on a cloth on the counter. Keep stirring for another 5 minutes.
  9. Pour the chocolate through a fine-mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth into a mold and let it cool for 30 minutes before popping it in the fridge to harden.

This stuff won’t be as luxuriously smooth as you’re used to. Though you can blitz it in a food processor to help smooth it out.

Still, it’s a great milk chocolate alternative when you can’t make it to the store. Plus, you can always flavor it or add fun mix-ins to make it your own!
