How to Make a Turkey Avocado Sandwich

This sandwich screams gourmet, but it’s so easy to throw together!

1. Cook the bacon. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

2. Toast the bread. Toast the sourdough bread slices until golden brown.

3. Spread the mayonnaise. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on one side of each toasted bread slice.

4. Layer the ingredients. On two of the bread slices, layer a slice of provolone cheese, 6 slices of turkey, 2 strips of bacon, avocado slices, tomato slices, and a lettuce leaf.

5. Assemble the sandwich. Top each sandwich with the remaining toasted bread slices, mayonnaise side down.

6. Serve the sandwich. Carefully cut the sandwiches in half diagonally and serve immediately. Enjoy!

Tips for the Best Turkey Avocado Sandwich

These tips will make your sandwich truly stand out among the rest.

  • Quality is key. Choose a high-quality, sturdy bread like sourdough, ciabatta, or a crusty baguette to hold up to the filling without getting soggy.
  • Don’t skimp on the seasoning. Sprinkle a little salt and pepper on the tomato and avocado slices to enhance their flavors.
  • Mash it up. Mash the avocado with a fork and season it with salt, pepper, and a squeeze of lemon or lime juice for added flavor.
  • Have fun and experiment. Try different types of cheese (Swiss, Cheddar, Pepper Jack), or add some sliced red onion or pickled jalapeños for a kick. You can also spread a little pesto or chipotle mayonnaise for extra flavor.
  • Make it a meal. Pair your sandwich with a simple side salad, potato chips, or a cup of soup for a satisfying meal.

How to Store

If you don’t finish your sandwich, here’s how to keep it nice and fresh.

To Store: Wrap the sandwich tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. For best results, store the lettuce and tomato separately to prevent sogginess.

To Reheat: Remove any cold ingredients (lettuce, tomato, avocado) and warm the sandwich in a preheated oven at 350°F for 5-10 minutes. You can also use a toaster oven or panini press for quicker reheating, then reassemble with the cold ingredients before serving.
