Ingredients

  • Chicken Wings: The star of the show! Use whole wings for maximum juiciness and flavor. Pat them dry for the crispiest results.
  • Old Bay Seasoning: This iconic blend brings a zesty, savory kick to the wings. It’s the perfect partner for poultry.
  • Baking Powder: The secret ingredient for crispy skin without frying. Use baking powder, not baking soda.
  • Salt: Just a touch enhances all the flavors. It helps the seasoning stick and penetrates the wings.

How to Make Old Bay Chicken Wings

With just four ingredients, these wings couldn’t be easier to prepare.

1. Prep the oven. Preheat your oven to 475°F. Line a large-rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Spray the rack generously with cooking spray.

2. Dry the chicken wings. Pat the chicken wings very dry with paper towels. This is important for achieving crispy skin. Place the wings in a large bowl or resealable plastic bag.

3. Mix the seasonings. In a small bowl, mix together the Old Bay seasoning, baking powder, and salt. Add this mixture to the wings and toss until they are evenly coated.

4. Bake the wings. Arrange the seasoned wings in a single layer on the prepared wire rack. Bake for 40-50 minutes, flipping them over halfway through, until the wings are crispy and golden brown. They should reach an internal temperature of 165°F.

5. Optional broil. If you’d like the wings even crispier, you can broil them for an additional 4-6 minutes. Watch closely so they don’t burn.

6. Cool and serve. Remove the wings from the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, if desired. Enjoy!

Tips for the Best Old Bay Chicken Wings

Take your wings from great to outstanding with these easy tips.

  • The drier, the better. Pat the chicken wings very dry with paper towels before seasoning to help achieve crispy skin.
  • Be generous! Old Bay packs a lot of flavor, so season the wings generously for maximum impact. 2-4 teaspoons per 3 lbs of wings work well.
  • Don’t skip the broiler. For even crispier wings, broil them for an additional 4-6 minutes after baking. Watch closely so they don’t burn.
  • Take an air fryer shortcut. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F, and cook the wings for 20-25 minutes, turning occasionally to maximize crispiness.
  • Butter them up. Melt butter and stir in Old Bay seasoning and lemon juice. Toss the baked wings in this flavorful butter sauce.
  • Dip to your heart’s content. For a classic pairing with the Old Bay flavor, serve the wings with cocktail sauce. Ranch and blue cheese dips are other popular options.

How to Store

Keep leftover wings nice and fresh with these tips.

To Store: Place the cooked chicken wings in an air-tight container and refrigerate within two hours of cooking. They can be kept in the fridge for 4 days.

To Freeze: Arrange the cooled wings in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Transfer the frozen wings to a freezer-safe bag or container. Store for up to 3 months.

To Reheat: Preheat your oven to 350°F and bake the wings for 10-15 minutes until heated through. Or, reheat in the microwave on high for 2-3 minutes, or use an air fryer at 350°F for 2-3 minutes until warmed through.

  1. I’ve made these from one of your previous posts, in fact I’ve made them several times. As mentioned before they are a little salty so I left the salt out too, that being said I had to double the recipe. They are great!!! Just about the only way I make them now…
