Ingredients

There’s nothing out of the ordinary on this ingredient list! Here’s everything you need for these Philly cheesesteak sliders.

  • Ribeye Steak – The hallmark of a good Philly cheesesteak is a tender ribeye. Slice it thin so it melts in your mouth when you take a bite.
  • Olive Oil – Adding a little olive oil to the pan helps the ribeye get nice and brown.
  • Seasoning – These sliders have a lot of flavor going on, so you only need a few spices. A little salt, pepper, and garlic powder are the ideal combo.
  • Onion – For the best flavor, I like to use a sweet yellow onion. The sweetness goes so well with savory ribeye. You can also use white onion if you prefer.
  • Green Pepper – Adding green peppers brings a nice, earthy flavor to these sliders.
  • Slider Rolls – You can use any slider buns you can get your hands on. I love King’s Hawaiian rolls because they’re delicately sweet and super soft.
  • Butter – Brushing the tops of the rolls with a butter mixture takes the flavor over the top.
  • Worcestershire Sauce – Worcestershire sauce delivers that authentic Philly cheesesteak flavor.
  • Provolone Cheese – No Philly cheesesteak is complete without a slice of gooey Provolone cheese.

How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

This recipe makes a big batch of sliders, and they come together in under 30 minutes. Just follow these easy steps:

1. Prepare. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Cook the ribeye. Heat the olive oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet. Then, add the ribeye and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, and then set aside.

3. Saute the onions and peppers. Using the same skillet, add the onion and pepper. Saute for 5-7 minutes, or until slightly browned.

4. Make the butter glaze. In a small bowl, whisk the melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic.

5. Build the sliders. Arrange the bottom buns in the baking tray. Then, pile them with sliced ribeye steak, onions and peppers, and cheese. Then, top with the buns, and brush with the butter mixture.

6. Bake. Pop the sliders in the oven, and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese melts. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Recipe Tips & Variations

Check out these easy tips and variations below to take your Philly cheesesteak sliders over the edge.

  • Don’t burn your buns! Keep an eye on the sliders while they’re in the oven. If the buns brown quicker than the cheese melts, tent them with foil.
  • Slice up skinny steak. For that perfect bite, slice the ribeye as thinly as possible. If you can’t find ribeye, you can substitute it with flank or skirt steak.
  • Don’t have ribeye on hand? No worries! You can swap out steak for ground beef. Drain the beef well, or the sliders will be too greasy.
  • Throw in more veggies. Add whatever you like, such as mushrooms, red or yellow peppers, or even zucchini.
  • Go vegan. Opt for your favorite meat substitute, like Morning Star beef crumbles. Then, swap out provolone cheese for Daiya provolone.
  • Make ‘em spicy. If you want to bring some heat to the party, try adding a little cayenne pepper. It adds a kick of heat and bright warming notes.

How to Store

Here’s everything you need to know about storing leftover sliders for a tasty next-day lunch.

  • To Store: Allow the sliders to cool completely, then transfer to an air-tight container and place them in the fridge. They’ll stay fresh for up to 4 days.
  • To Freeze: If you can’t eat a tray in 3-4 days, you can also freeze them! Place them in an air-tight container or freezer bag where they’ll stay fresh for up to 1 month.
  • To Reheat: From frozen, allow the sliders to thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Then, place them in the oven at 350 degrees and reheat (covered in foil) for 15-20 minutes. Or, you can pop individual portions in the microwave.
