Yummy Ways To Use Powdered Milk

Powdered milk is a fantastic pantry staple that’s ideal for use in everything from dinner and dessert to drinks.

It’s light and slightly sweet, so it doesn’t overwhelm other ingredients. Plus, it makes a pretty good drink when it’s reconstituted correctly.

So give these recipes with powdered milk a try, and let me know what you think!

1. Pastillas de Leche

This Filipino candy is creamy and delicious with a custardy, milk flavor, and a slight hint of citrus to cut the richness.

It’s a perfect little treat that’s sweet and fresh with a fun texture. It’s almost like Play-Doh… but you can eat it!

Traditionally, Pastillas de Leche are cylindrical, but you can make them in any shape you like.

2. Homemade Mozzarella

Mozzarella cheese is absolutely delicious and goes well with so many dishes.

However, good mozzarella can be a bit pricey. And in some places, it can be hard to find.

Enter powdered milk mozzarella. This stuff tastes like regular mozzarella, and it melts just as well.

The process is a little time-consuming, but it’s well worth it. Plus, it’s a great science experiment/family activity that results in deliciousness!

3. Butter

You butter believe you can make butter out of powdered milk! It’s creamy, delicious, and super smooth.

Now, I’m not going to tell you that it tastes EXACTLY like real butter. But neither does movie theater popcorn, and that’s delicious, right?

Plus, it’s straightforward and inexpensive, so it’s worth trying.

4. Milk Powder Burfi

Burfi is basically Indian milk fudge, and boy, it is delicious!

It’s the perfect sweet treat for when you want something flavorful with a bit of texture.

Burfi is chewy, creamy, nutty, and fragrant. It’s topped with pistachios and almonds, so it also has a great crunch.

It’s fantastic, so make some asap!

5. Condensed Milk

If you need condensed milk, there’s no need to run to the store. Instead, you can easily make it with ingredients you probably have at home!

In fact, there are only four ingredients to this recipe: melted butter, granulated sugar, boiling water, and milk powder.

Simply add everything to a blender and let it go until it’s smooth! When you’re done, your homemade condensed milk can be used immediately.

6. Peda

Peda is an Indian treat, similar to Barfi.

They both have a sweet, milky flavor with notes of cardamom; only Peda is usually round and has a slightly firmer texture.

Often Peda is topped with dried fruit and pistachios for some added chew and crunch. But without that, it’s fudgy and delicious.

7. Gulab Jamun

If you like doughnuts, you’ll love Gulab Jamun.

These little pieces of fried heaven hail from the Indian subcontinent. They’re sweet, sticky, and scrumptious!

They’re also super easy to make.

You’ll start with a simple recipe featuring milk powder, which adds a lovely richness to the dough.

Fry each little dough ball until it’s perfectly golden. Then, drop it into a lemon and cardamom sugar syrup.

Let the Gulab Jamun soak for a few hours, and then get ready to have your tastebuds tingle.

8. Easy Homemade White Bread

There is nothing quite like freshly baked bread. And it’s way easier than you think to make it at home.

This recipe is effortless, requires minimal equipment, and calls for fewer than ten ingredients.

But the result is a super delicious and richly flavored bread.

Eat it on its own with some butter, or use it to make the most stellar grilled cheese sandwich!

9. Chai Latte Powder Mix

So, here’s a secret: many local coffee shops use powdered chai latte mix. I know that sounds blasphemous, but chai latte powder is actually pretty good.

Now that you know, you might as well save money and make it at home!

All you need is powdered milk, powdered creamer, common chai spices, sugar, and black tea.

How easy is that?

10. Coconut Buns

These coconut buns are seriously blissful.

Inspired by sweet buns you can find in a Chinese bakery, they’re lightly sweet, soft, and delicious.

Every bite is a perfect balance of soft bread and creamy filling. And between the coconut and vanilla flavors, you’ll want more than one.

These buns do require a bit of time and love. But they’re worth every second.

11. Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

There is nothing like a steaming mug of hot chocolate on a cold day. It’s sweet, delicious, and warms you up from the inside out.

Skip the Swiss Miss because this homemade version is insanely good!

This hot chocolate mix is rich and creamy and oh-so-chocolatey.

Do you wanna know the best part? This mix only requires four ingredients: cocoa powder, milk powder, sugar, and salt… that’s it!

This makes a really great Christmas gift too! Just pop it in a cute mug and add some mini marshmallows.

12. Pizza Hut Pan Pizza

I love ordering pizza for delivery and I love making pizza at home. This copycat Pizza hut recipe gives you the best of both worlds!

The thick, delicious crust is soft on the inside with crispy, buttery, and garlicky edges.

Add your favorite sauce, cheese, and toppings, then bake for 15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

I’m drooling just thinking about it!

This recipe might just steal a pizza your heart. At the very least, you’ll never need another crust recipe again!

13. Crustless Pumpkin Pie

This crustless pumpkin pie is basically pumpkin custard, and it’s unbelievably delectable. It might just be the perfect fall dessert.

The best part is that you don’t need to fuss with pastry!

It’s also lower-carb, so it’s pretty guilt-free… even if it’s your third slice. And you’ll want that third slice!

The pie is creamy, rich, beautifully spiced, and bursting with pumpkin. If you serve this at a holiday party, it will be gone before you can blink!

14. Bonus: Pancakes with Sweet Glaze

Pancakes are my favorite thing to make on a lazy Sunday morning. And when you add powdered milk, they’re extra fluffy and rich.

Here’s my recipe:

For the Pancakes

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup powdered milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter or oil
  • 1 1/4 cups cold water
  1. Whisk all the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. Add the egg, butter, and water and whisk until mostly smooth. A few lumps are okay.
  3. Fry in 1/4 cup portions until golden brown.

For the Glaze

  • 1-2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  1. Place all the ingredients except the vanilla in a small saucepan. Start with 1 cup powdered sugar and add more as needed.
  2. Cook over low heat until smooth.
  3. Add the vanilla, stir well, and serve over the pancakes.

As you can see, I like them served with banana slices and chopped nuts.

But you can easily make these your own with chocolate chips, blueberries, and more!
