Peanut Butter Milkshake

In the world of chocolate and strawberry milkshakes, peanut butter isn’t the most common flavor. But I’m here to remedy that.

This peanut butter milkshake is the perfect combination of sweet and salty.

And most importantly, it explodes with peanut butter goodness.

It only requires a few simple ingredients and 5 minutes of your time.

The result is a lusciously thick, creamy, soul-feeding milkshake the whole family will love.

Peanut Butter Milkshake Ingredients - Vanilla Ice Cream, Milk, Peanut Butter and Vanilla Extract

Ingredients

  • Vanilla Ice Cream- Vanilla ice cream is the perfect base for this milkshake. It really lets the peanut butter flavor shine. Use your favorite brand.
  • Milk- Milk takes this from a boring sundae to a marvelous milkshake. I recommend using whole milk for its creaminess.
  • Peanut Butter- This is kind of the whole point of the milkshake. Creamy peanut butter is best for blend-ability. However, feel free to use crunchy peanut butter if you prefer.
    • Just know that it may take a little longer to blend. And it will have a slightly crunchy texture. But some people like that even better!
  • Vanilla Extract- Vanilla extract adds depth to the flavor profile. Plus, vanilla helps highlight the flavor of the peanut butter without overpowering it.

How To Make the Best Peanut Butter Milkshake

Step One- Prep your drinking glasses. Grab two of your favorite drinking (or milkshake) glasses and put them in the freezer. They’ll chill while you make your milkshake.

Step Two- Make the milkshake. Add all your ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth. Pour the milkshake into the chilled glasses and top with whipped cream.

Step Three- ENJOY! Add your favorite toppings, sit back, and sip slowly. You’ll want to enjoy every second, and you don’t want a brain freeze!

Tips and Tricks for the Best Peanut Butter Milkshake

  • Let your ice cream soften a little (just a little) before you use it. This will make it easier to scoop and blend.
  • Don’t worry too much about exact measurements, especially with the peanut butter. This dessert is more of a “measure with your heart” kind of thing.
  • Do you prefer a thicker milkshake? Add more ice cream and/or peanut butter! If you like it thinner, add more milk.
  • If you don’t have a blender, you can use a food processor. If you don’t have that, you can use an immersion blender. As a last resort, you can use an electric hand mixer.

Peanut Butter Milkshake Variations

This peanut butter smoothie is fabulous on its own. But peanut butter is only the beginning.

You can whip up so many fun variations of this delicious treat. Here are some of my favorites.

  • Extra Peanut Butter– If 2 tablespoons are simply not enough peanut butter (I agree), use some more! Add as much peanut butter as you like.
  • Better yet, find yourself some peanut butter ice cream. Use that instead of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate peanut butter experience.
  • Chocolate– Chocolate and peanut butter were meant to be enjoyed together. You can use chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla. Or you can blend in some chocolate sauce.
  • You can even add chocolate chips on top!
  • Or, and hear me out, use Nutella. *chef’s kiss*
  • PB&J– You can mimic the iconic sandwich in two ways.
  • 1. Add frozen berries. Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, they’re all delectable. And it tastes just like a PB&J.
  • 2. Add a tablespoon or two of your favorite jelly.
  • Peanut Butter, Honey, and Banana– I actually prefer this sandwich to PB&J. So, I know I’ll like it better as a milkshake, too.
  • Add half a banana (fresh or frozen) and a drizzle of your favorite honey.
  • Sprinkles– Because sprinkles are always fun!
  • Go Nuts– Add salted peanuts on top for extra nuttiness.
  • Candy– Sprinkle chunks of your favorite candy on top or stir it in after blending. Snickers, Reeses’ Pieces, Peanut Butter Cups, and Twix are all good choices.
  • Cookies– Instead of candy, use your favorite cookies! Peanut butter cookies are the obvious choice, but any cookie would be delicious.
  • Blend them with the milkshake or crumble them on top!
  • Sauces- Chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, marshmallow fluff, oh, yummy!
  • Go Vegan– Go for plant-based ice cream and milk to make this vegan.
  • Make It Healthy– Make it with frozen yogurt, a frozen banana, natural peanut butter, and almond milk. It tastes just as good, but it’s more nutrient-dense.
  • You could also replace the peanut butter with 2 tablespoons of PB2 or any other peanut butter protein powder.
