  • Unbaked Pie Crust: Choose homemade for rustic charm or store-bought for convenience.
  • Pecan Halves: They add crunch and depth to this classic dessert.
  • Bourbon: A splash takes pecan pie from classic to crave-worthy. Use a good quality bourbon you enjoy drinking.
  • Large Eggs: Keep them at room temperature to mix in more easily.
  • Dark Corn Syrup: It gives the filling body and a molasses undertone.
  • Dark Brown Sugar: It gives the pie a deeper caramel flavor than light brown sugar.
  • Unsalted Butter: Melted butter is the secret to the filling’s texture and rich taste.

  • Ground Cinnamon: A pinch of cinnamon makes the pie taste extra cozy.
  • Salt: To balance the sweetness and make the flavors pop.

How to Make Bourbon Pecan Pie

Follow these steps to put this pie together:

  1. Prepare the crust. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place the unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. Add the pecans. Spread the chopped pecans in an even layer on the bottom of the pie crust.
  3. Make the filling. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, dark corn syrup, brown sugar, melted butter, bourbon, vanilla, salt, and cinnamon until smooth.
  4. Assemble the pie. Pour the filling mixture over the chopped pecans. Decorate the top with the remaining pecan halves in a circular pattern.
  5. Bake the pie. Place the pie on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 50-60 minutes, until the filling is set and puffed up.
  6. Cool and serve. Remove the pie from the oven. Let it cool completely on a wire rack for 3-4 hours before slicing and serving.

Tips For the Best Bourbon Pecan Pie

This pie is easy, but these tips make it incredible!

  • Get toasty. Toasting the pecans before adding them to the filling brings out their nutty flavor.
  • Level up the butter. Browning the butter adds an extra layer of rich, caramel flavor to the filling.
  • Brighten it up. Adding just a bit of lemon zest brightens up the filling.
  • Blind baking is bliss. Partially baking the crust before adding the filling helps prevent a soggy bottom.
  • Get salty. Sprinkling a bit of flaky sea salt on top before baking enhances the flavor.
  • Try tasty variations. Add chocolate chips for a chocolate bourbon pecan pie, using other nuts like walnuts. Or, sprinkle in spices like cinnamon or cardamom.

How to Store

If you have leftover pie, follow these steps to keep it fresh:

To Store: Keep it covered tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Allow the pie to cool completely before covering and storing.

To Freeze: Wrap the cooled pie tightly in plastic wrap followed by aluminum foil. Store in the freezer for up to 2 months. Thaw the frozen pie overnight in the refrigerator before serving or reheating.

To Reheat: Remove the pie from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature. Warm individual slices in the microwave for 10-15 seconds. Or, heat the entire pie in a preheated 325°F oven for 10-15 minutes until warmed through.

This bourbon pecan pie is bursting with Southern flavor! It’s buttery, sweet, gooey, and impossible to resist!

Ingredients

  • 1 9-inch unbaked pie crust (homemade or store-bought)

  • 2 1/2 cups pecan halves, divided (1 1/2 cups chopped, 1 cup left whole for decorating the top)

  • 4 large eggs

  • 1 cup dark corn syrup

  • 2/3 cup packed dark brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly

  • 1/4 cup good quality bourbon

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place the unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish.
  • Spread 1 1/2 cups of chopped pecans in an even layer on the bottom of the pie crust. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, dark corn syrup, brown sugar, melted butter, bourbon, vanilla, salt, and cinnamon until smooth and well combined.
  • Pour the filling mixture over the chopped pecans in the pie crust. Use the remaining 1 cup of whole pecan halves to decorate the top of the pie in a circular pattern.
  • Place the pie on a baking sheet (to catch any spills) and bake for 50-60 minutes, until the filling is set and puffed up. The center may still jiggle slightly but will continue to set as it cools.
  • Remove from the oven and let the pie cool completely on a wire rack, about 3-4 hours, before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Toast the pecans before adding for an even deeper, nutty flavor.
  • Use a good quality bourbon you enjoy drinking for the best flavor.
  • Let the pie cool completely before slicing for cleaner slices.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
