How to Make Nutella Brownies

What I love most about this recipe is how the Nutella can really shine – even with all those chocolate chips in the mix.

Every bite offers a delightful blend of tastes and textures.

But as impressive as these are, I swear they’re a breeze to make!

1. PREP: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.

2. MELT: Melt the butter in the microwave, stir in the chocolate until smooth, then 1/2 cup of Nutella and set aside.

3. BEAT: Beat the eggs and sugars until pale and thick. Blend the vanilla and chocolate mixture in on low.

4. COMBINE: Add flour, cocoa powder, salt, and remaining chocolate chips. Mix gently by hand with a spatula until just combined.

5. BAKE: Pour the batter into the pan, swirl extra Nutella on top, then bake for 30-35 minutes.

6. COOL: Let the brownies cool completely in the pan. Then, slice, serve, and enjoy!

Tips For the Best Nutella Brownies

While these brownies are amazing on their own, they’re also fantastic served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

The combination of warm brownie, cool ice cream, and melty Nutella is simply divine.

Need a few more tips? I’ve got you covered.

  • Beat the eggs and sugar well. They should be thick, voluminous, and very pale. This step is crucial for achieving a good texture.
  • Room temperature eggs. Use eggs at room temperature to ensure they incorporate more easily.
  • Fold in the flour gently. You can use a mixer for the other additions, but switch to a spatula for this part. Overmixing can lead to tough brownies.
  • High-quality chocolate chips. Use good quality semi-sweet chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
  • Nutella swirl technique. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining Nutella over the batter and use a knife to create a marbled effect. If needed, warm it in the microwave first so it’s easier to swirl.
  • Avoid overbaking. Don’t bake for longer than 35 minutes. They will finish baking in the hot tray, so it’s best to underbake them to keep them fudgy.
  • Refrigerate for fudginess. For extra fudgy brownies, refrigerate the brownies after cooling. This also makes cutting cleaner and easier.
  • Variations. Experiment with adding nuts, using different types of chocolate chips, or incorporating other spreads like peanut butter.

How to Store

If you’re a chocolate lover like me, these Nutella brownies will be your new obsession.

They’re so easy to make and always a hit whenever I bring them to gatherings with friends and family.

Plus, they store well, so you can even make them ahead!

To Store: Place cooled brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days. For best results, separate layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

To Freeze: Wrap individual brownies tightly in plastic wrap, then place them in an airtight container or freezer bag for up to 2-3 months. Thaw frozen brownies overnight in the refrigerator or at room temperature for a few hours before serving.

Rich and gooey Nutella brownies are an irresistibly decadent combination of fudgy chocolate swirled with rich, creamy hazelnut spread.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter

  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips, divided

  • 3/4 cups Nutella, divided

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs + 2 egg yolks

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour

  • 1/3 cup (35g) unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • Sea salt, optional for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on all sides.
  • In a large heatproof bowl, microwave the butter in 20-second intervals until smooth. Add 1 cup of chocolate chips and mix until lump-free. If needed, microwave in 20-second bursts until the chocolate is fully melted. Stir in 1/2 cup of Nutella and set aside.
  • In a separate large bowl, beat the eggs, yolks, and sugars with an electric mixer on medium speed until pale and thick, about 4-5 minutes. Turn the speed to low and blend in the vanilla.
  • Add the butter-chocolate mixture and blend on low until combined. Then, add the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and remaining chocolate chips. Mix very gently by hand with a spatula until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining Nutella over the batter. Use a knife to swirl it into the batter, creating a marbled effect. If using, sprinkle with sea salt.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Be careful not to overbake.
  • Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan. Use the parchment paper to lift them out, then cut into squares and serve. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Beat the eggs and sugar well. They should be thick, voluminous, and very pale. This step is crucial for achieving a good texture.
  • Fold in the flour gently. You can use a mixer for the other additions, but switch to a spatula for this part. Overmixing can lead to tough brownies.
