17 Easy Malibu Cocktails

If you know anything about Malibu cocktails, then you probably already know they’re sweet, tropical, fruity, and fun.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with them, let me start by explaining that Malibu cocktails are made with Malibu rum.

They’re not just cocktails you’d find on your vacation to California.

(Although to be fair, you’d probably find most of these there, as well!)

Luckily, though, you can whip them up no matter where in the world you happen to be.

These Malibu rum cocktails are so good, you’ll want to make them year-round, even in the coldest locations.

Malibu Rum Cocktails & Drink Recipes

1. Malibu Sunset

The Malibu sunset is a gorgeous 2-minute drink.

It features a deep, bright red at the bottom of the glass but fades to near transparency at the top.

You’ll make it with ice, pineapple-orange juice, Malibu coconut rum, grenadine, and various fruity garnishes to make it look nice.

All the skies may be gray, but this fancy cocktail will have you California dreamin’ after only a single sip.

Ingredients: ice cubes, pineapple-orange juice, Malibu coconut rum, grenadine, Maraschino cherries, pineapple and orange slices

2. Malibu Sunrise

If possible, the Malibu sunrise is even prettier than the sunset. It really does look like a gorgeous sunrise in a glass.

The ingredients for the sunrise and the sunset are the same, right down to the garnishes.

The only difference is how you make them – the order of adding the ingredients, etc.

They both taste precisely the same, however. They’re sweet, fruity, and unbelievably delicious.

Ingredients: ice, Malibu rum, orange juice, pineapple juice, grenadine syrup, Maraschino cherries, pineapple, or orange slices

3. Malibu Summer Rose

This gorgeous mixed drink also looks like sunrise in a glass, but it has a lot more orange (color and flavor) in it than the Malibu sunrise.

It almost tastes like your favorite brand of tropical punch. I

t contains Malibu rum, peach schnapps, pineapple juice, orange juice, grenadine, and plenty of fruit for garnishes.

It may be hard for you to taste anything but the fruit in this drink, but I promise you, the alcohol is definitely there.

So be sure you sip slowly instead of gulping. It may hit harder than you think.

Ingredients: Malibu coconut rum, peach schnapps, pineapple juice, orange juice, grenadine, fresh pineapple slices, orange slices, or Maraschino cherries

4. Malibu Bay Breeze

You won’t find many Malibu cocktails that aren’t sweet and fruity, but now and then, you’ll run across one that has a bit of tartness to it, as well.

That’s the Malibu bay breeze.

Thanks to the addition of cranberry juice, it has a distinct, almost sour flavor that pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the rum and the sweet tanginess of the pineapple juice.

Best of all, you can make it in 3 minutes with only three ingredients (plus ice and garnishes).

Since no one wants to waste time making drinks when they could be drinking them, that’s pretty hard to beat.

Ingredients: Malibu rum, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, ice cubes

5. Electric Smurf

In case you don’t already know this, here’s a little piece of barroom wisdom: Any drink that has the word “electric” in its name is almost always vibrantly blue.

It’s sort of an unwritten rule that all “electric” drinks contain blue curacao.

This one is no exception. It also uses Malibu, pineapple juice, and lemon-lime soda.

It’s a zesty, citrusy drink that’s as sparkly and as charming as it is tasty.

Be sure to top it off with maraschino cherries, pineapple slices, and a cute umbrella.

Those things aren’t mandatory, of course, but they certainly get people in the mood for summer fun in the sun.

Ingredients: Malibu coconut rum, Blue Curacao, pineapple juice, lemon-lime soda

6. Malibu Pina Colada

It doesn’t get much more typically beachy and tropical than a pina colada, and this pina colada recipe is one of the very best.

You’ll make it with ice, Malibu rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice, pineapples, and cherries.

It’s a creamy, icy treat that smells like summer and tastes like a dream.

It’s wonderfully light and refreshing, and it’s perfect for sipping on a hot summer day.

Ingredients: ice cubes, Malibu rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice, whole cherry, piece of pineapple

7. Malibu Paradise

This pink party punch is easy to make, requires only four ingredients, and has a tart, slightly bittersweet flavor.

You’ll make it with Malibu rum, vodka, pineapple juice, and cranberry juice, and despite its light, delicate color, it’s a relatively strong drink.

If you’re looking for something a bit sweeter, use sweetened cranberry juice.

However, if you prefer a tart, slightly bitter flavor, use pure cranberry juice instead.

Just be sure you’re prepared for that much tanginess because it might be more than you anticipated.

Ingredients: Malibu rum, pineapple juice, vodka, cranberry juice

8. Malibu Mistress

This funky green drink combines Malibu, pineapple juice, and melon liqueur. (I use Midori.)

It has a unique flavor that’ll remind you of cucumber melon but isn’t precisely the same.

The flavor palette is similar, though – slightly melon sweet with a bit of clean earthiness added in for good measure.

Because it uses only three ingredients, it takes practically no time to make.

Combine your ingredients, shake them up, and strain them into an ice-filled glass.

I like to top mine with decadent whipped cream and chunks of canned pineapple, but the garnishes are your call.

Ingredients: coconut rum, melon liqueur, pineapple juice, whipped cream, cherry

9. Pineapple and Orange Coconut Rum Cocktail

I don’t know what it is about me assuming all orange-flavored drinks are perfect for brunch; I guess it’s the orange juice connection.

Either way, this drink is – you guessed it – perfect for brunch!

The Malibu rum and pineapple juice give it a slightly sweeter, more tropical taste than pure orange juice.

If you’re a fan of OJ in the mornings, you’ll enjoy this simple cocktail.

Ingredients: orange juice, pineapple juice, coconut rum, ice cubes, slices of fruit

10. Winter Sunshine Rum Cocktail

Most Malibu cocktails are all about summer and the beach.

But this icy mixed drink is geared more toward the winter months. (Here’s your Malibu drink, Alaska!)

Honestly, it still screams summer to me, thanks to the overwhelmingly sweet flavor and aroma of coconut.

But it looks like a glass of winter snow, making it ideal for the holidays.

Ingredients: ice cubes, canned coconut milk, pulp-free orange juice, Malibu rum, coconut flakes

11. Coconut Rum Punch

If you’re whipping up this flavorful drink, I suggest you go ahead and use the pitcher recipe.

One glass just won’t be enough.

This drink is sweet, rich, bubbly, and beautiful.

You can adjust its overall sweetness or dryness by tweaking the amount of ginger ale you use.

Whether you opt for the sweeter or tangier option, you’re sure to love it.

Ingredients: grenadine or Maraschino cherry juice, orange juice, pineapple juice, Malibu, ginger ale, pineapple, Maraschino cherries

12. Blue Hawaiian

This gorgeous, brilliantly blue drink is much thicker and creamier than it looks. (That’s thanks to a generous dollop of creme de coconut.)

It’s one of the sweeter, more decadent drinks on the list.

Despite its bright taste, it’s not as refreshing as some of the others because of how sugary and rich it is.

Even so, if you’re looking for a stunningly beautiful dessert drink, you can’t beat the blue Hawaiian.

Ingredients: Malibu rum, Blue Curacao, pineapple juice, creme de coconut, fresh lemon juice

13. Rum Runner

The rum runner is a surprisingly robust little drink. It packs a lot of rum into one small package.

You’ll use three rums in it – Captain Morgan spiced rum, Bacardi light rum, and Malibu rum.

Then, you’ll add amaretto, pineapple juice, grenadine, and garnishes.

If Captain Jack Sparrow drank cocktails instead of straight rum, this would be his drink of choice.

Ingredients: Captain Morgan spiced rum, Bacardi light rum, Malibu coconut rum, Disarrano Amaretto, pineapple juice, grenadine, Maraschino cherries or orange slices

14. Bikini Martini

The bikini martini is a fun, colorful drink that’ll undoubtedly turn some heads.

It’s simple to make, taking no more than 5 minutes, and it’s just as sweet and tropical as most of the other drinks on this list.

You’ll make it with pineapple juice, coconut rum, vodka, grenadine, pineapples, and maraschino cherries for garnishes.

It’s sweet and strong and will likely make you want to strip down to your bikini if you have more than one. (Party responsibly!)

Ingredients: pineapple juice, coconut rum, vodka, grenadine, pineapple, Maraschino cherries

15. Sex on the Beach

The sex on the beach is probably one of the most well-known tropical cocktails there is.

I’m not sure I’ve ever met anyone over the age of 13 who hasn’t heard of it, even if they don’t know what’s in it.

To be such a popular, sought-after drink, it’s surprisingly simple to make.

You’ll need Malibu rum, orange juice, cranberry juice, peach schnapps, vanilla extract, and ice.

It’s sweet, fruity, and fantastically refreshing.

Whether you’re lounging by the pool, sitting at a bar, or binging Netflix in your living room, this drink can make your day better.

Ingredients: Malibu rum or vodka, orange juice, cranberry juice, peach schnapps, vanilla extract, ice cubes

16. Lava Flow

The taste is truly tropical (like a strawberry slushie with a dash of coconut rum).

But I love serving this drink at Halloween because of its unique appearance.

It has a thick, almost bloody look that some people find unpalatable, but I think it looks incredible.

And honestly, once your friends get a single taste of it, they won’t care what it looks like anymore.

Ingredients: coconut rum, white rum, frozen strawberries, pineapple juice, cream of coconut, crushed ice, pineapple slices and strawberries

17. Bahama Mama

I’m not sure there is any drink on this list that’s better known than sex on the beach.

However, if there were one, it would probably be the Bahama Mama.

I’ve been talking about tropical drinks and beaches and referencing California this whole time.

But we all know the real tropical paradise is the Bahamas.

This drink can transport you there with just one sip.

It’s hard for anyone to say no to this one between the pineapple and orange juices and the dark and coconut rum.

Ingredients: dark rum, coconut rum, orange juice, pineapple juice, grenadine, ice, pineapple slices
