Cool Whip Candy

This Cool Whip candy is creamy, dreamy, and totally irresistible! These three-ingredient treats are like a homemade version of the classic Three Musketeers.

The secret is in the filling, made with thawed Cool Whip folded into melted milk chocolate. The result is a luscious, mousse-like center inside a snappy dark chocolate shell.

Easy Prep: Cool Whip candy requires no baking, no special equipment, and only 3 ingredients! It’s a breeze to make, even if you’ve never made candy before.

Freezer-Friendly: These candies store wonderfully in the freezer, making them excellent make-ahead treats. You can even pop them in your mouth straight from frozen.

Melt-In-Your-Mouth: The Cool Whip in these candies gives them a light, whipped center that’ll melt in your mouth.

Ingredients

  • Milk Chocolate Chips: These creamy, sweet morsels will form the base of the candy. They melt smoothly and mix beautifully with the Cool Whip.
  • Cool Whip: The secret ingredient gives this candy its signature light, whipped texture.
  • Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers: These will become the decadent coating for the filling.

How to Make Cool Whip Candy

You can have Cool Whip candy ready to serve after six simple steps:

1. PREPARE. Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides.

2. MELT. Melt the milk chocolate chips in a large, microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high power in 30-second intervals, stirring between each. When fully melted, let it cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

3. ADD COOL WHIP. Gently stir the thawed Cool Whip into the cooled milk chocolate. Mix until fully combined.

4. FREEZE. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading evenly. Freeze for 30 minutes. Once frozen, slice into 36 small squares. Place these squares on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Re-freeze for 30 more minutes.

5. COAT. Melt the dark chocolate wafers according to the package instructions. Then, using a fork, dip each candy into the melted dark chocolate. Return the candies to the baking sheet.

6. SET AND STORE. Give the candies time to set completely. Then, store them in an air-tight container in the freezer for up to 1 month. Enjoy straight from frozen.

Tips for the Best Cool Whip Candy

Keep these tips in mind when making these indulgent treats:

  • Treat yourself. No candy tastes better than its ingredients. If you want high-quality candy, use high-quality ingredients. I like Ghirardelli.
  • Just keep folding! Ever watched Finding Nemo? Well, instead of “just keep swimming,” this recipe requires you to “just keep folding!” The chocolate chips may harden while you work. But just keep folding gently until the chocolate and Cool Whip are fully combined.
  • Don’t rush it! If the Cool Whip/chocolate mixture doesn’t set properly, it’ll melt when dipped into the dark chocolate. Give the candy ample time to chill in the freezer.
  • Try a dipping trick. Ensure you completely coat each chocolate candy. The easiest way is by sticking the candies with a fork and fully submerging them in the dark chocolate.

Variations

A few variations to try:

  • Use different chocolate types. Swap the dark chocolate out for white chocolate. Or use dark chocolate chips for the center instead of milk chocolate.
  • Make them extra milk chocolatey. Use milk chocolate chips and milk chocolate wafers for the coating. You can also use chocolate whipped cream for the center!
  • Add toppings. Sprinkle some coarse sea salt or crushed nuts on top of the candies. Sprinkles, chocolate drizzles, or colored candy melts are also good choices.

How to Store

When stored properly, Cool Whip candy will last up to 1 month! Here’s how:

To Store: Place Cool Whip candy in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.

To Freeze: Store the candies in a freezer-safe bag or airtight container. Freeze for up to 1 month. Enjoy them straight from the freezer for that nougat-like texture.

Ingredients

  • 2 (11-ounce) bags milk chocolate chips

  • 1 (8-ounce) tub Cool Whip, thawed

  • 24 ounces dark chocolate melting wafers

Instructions

  • Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides. Set aside.
  • In a large, microwave-safe bowl, melt the milk chocolate chips. Melt in 30-second intervals. Stir between each until smooth and fully melted. Allow the chocolate to cool to room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Gently stir the thawed Cool Whip into the cooled melted chocolate until fully combined. The chocolate may harden into small bits, which is normal. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  • Freeze for 30 minutes. Remove and cut into 36 small squares. Place the squares on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Return them to the freezer for 30 additional minutes.
  • Melt the dark chocolate wafers according to the package directions. Remove the frozen filling squares from the freezer. Using a fork, dip each square into the melted chocolate to fully coat. Tap off excess and place the squares back on the parchment paper.
  • Allow the chocolate to set completely. Store the candies in an air-tight container in the freezer for up to 1 month. Enjoy straight from the freezer for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Ensure the melted milk chocolate cools before mixing it with the Cool Whip. Otherwise, the Cool Whip will melt. Fold gently to keep some air in the mixture.
  • Store candies in the freezer and enjoy them cold for the most authentic 3 Musketeers experience.
