How to Make Turkey Pesto Sandwich

Making this sandwich couldn’t be easier! Just follow these steps:

1. Prepare the bread. Spread butter on one side of each bread slice and pesto on the other side of one slice.

2. Layer the ingredients. Add the turkey slices, provolone cheese, tomato slices, and baby spinach leaves on top of the pesto.

3. Add the top bread slice. Spread pesto on the unbuttered side of the second bread slice. Place it on top of the spinach, pesto-side down.

4. Grill the sandwich. Place the sandwich in a preheated skillet or grill pan, butter side down. Cook for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.

5. Flip and press. Carefully flip the sandwich and grill the other side for 2-3 minutes. Press down lightly with a spatula until the cheese melts.

6. Cool and serve. Remove the sandwich from the heat, and let cool for 1 minute. Slice in half diagonally and serve immediately.

Tips For the Best Turkey Pesto Sandwich

Following these simple tips will make your sandwich the best it can be:

  • Quality is key. Choose a high-quality, crusty bread like sourdough for the best texture and flavor.
  • Go overboard. Don’t be shy with the pesto! Spread a generous amount on both slices of bread for maximum flavor.
  • Think thin. Opt for thinly sliced deli turkey breast for easy layering and a perfect meat-to-cheese ratio.
  • Give it a rest. To avoid burning your mouth on the melted cheese, allow the sandwich to cool for a minute before slicing and serving.
  • Have fun and experiment. Try different pesto flavors, cheeses, or add-ins like avocado and bacon.

How to Store

If you have leftover sandwiches, here’s how to keep them fresh.

To Store: Place the assembled sandwiches in an air-tight container or wrap tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

To Reheat: Remove the tomato slices and spinach before reheating. Reheat in a toaster oven, regular oven, or air fryer at 325-350°F for 4-5 minutes until warmed through. Or, reheat in the microwave for 30-60 seconds, though the bread may become slightly soft.

  • 2 slices provolone cheese

  • 1 Roma tomato, thinly sliced

  • 1/4 cup fresh baby spinach leaves

  • 1 tablespoon softened butter
